The George
What Visitors Say
It’s been a long time since my last visit to London back in 2008, so I was really looking forward to enjoying an authentic English fish and chips again. This place did not disappoint. The fish came with perfectly crispy batter that cracked apart with each bite, revealing moist, tender flesh inside. The thick-cut chips, topped with salt and a splash of vinegar, completed the classic British experience just the way I like it. We also ordered the pork chop, which was surprisingly impressive, and the Scotch eggs which an absolute must-try for their rich flavor and unique preparation. The sausage bread was an interesting take, though more on the average side for me. And of course, a pint of Guinness was hard to resist, even at lunchtime. The pub was packed with locals, and it’s clear why quality food and a lively atmosphere. Reservations are definitely recommended. A pleasant surprise to find a pub serving such excellent dishes!
Food was good but expensive. Fish was fab. Batter delicious & crumbly. Mushy peas absolutely fantastic. Irish soda bread absolutely amazing & Guinness butter creamy & yummy. Scotch egg very very good. They missed a trick in not recognising that it was a birthday celebration which I'd emailed before so a tad disappointed on that front. Irish server girl from Galway was lovely but I did find service a tad cold. Guinness was great. Gorgeous decor. Good location. Toilet was tiny. We would return.
Supposedly one of the oldest pub of London - the old building reminds it and provides the atmosphere that comes with it. Very good food. I recommend the fish and chips. For 20 years , I have been in the quest of the best fish and chips in London...I guess my search is over !
Popped in for lunch and we ordered the scotch egg, fish and chips, and a side of mac. All were delicious and cooked well. Ended our meal with sticky toffee pudding and would recommend it for sure. Loved the crisp on the fish! Service was also very kind and the playlist is great.
10/10 experience every single time. Delicious food, excellent service, amazing vibe upstairs and downstairs. Seriously just so good!!! One of my favorite pubs in all of London. The scotch egg, fish and chips, and gnocchi are a must!
