Things to Know Before You Go
Do I need to know Tudor history to enjoy SIX?
Not at all. The show playfully references historical events, but everything you need is explained through the lyrics and on-stage storytelling. If you already know the history, you’ll enjoy the clever references; if you don’t, you’ll still follow the queens’ stories and may leave wanting to look them up afterwards.
Is SIX suitable for children and teenagers?
SIX is popular with teenagers and older children. It does include some mature themes and innuendo as the queens discuss relationships, betrayal and execution, but the tone remains light, empowering and often very funny. If your young person listens to mainstream pop music, they are unlikely to be surprised by the language or subject matter.
How long does SIX last and is there an interval?
SIX runs for around 1 hour 15 minutes with no interval. The continuous, concert-style format means the energy never drops, making it perfect if you prefer a shorter show or want to fit theatre around other plans in London.
What style of music does SIX use?
The score draws on contemporary pop, R&B and electro influences, with each queen’s song inspired by different modern artists. Expect big hooks, tight harmonies and a sound closer to a chart-topping girl group than a traditional musical theatre score.
About this show
History class is officially cancelled and the pop concert has begun in SIX, the smash-hit musical that gives Henry VIII’s wives the mic, the spotlight and the final say. Part Tudor tale, part stadium-ready girl group, this 75-minute blast of energy sees the six queens competing to decide who had the worst deal – and therefore who should lead the band.
From Catherine of Aragon to Catherine Parr, each queen tells her side of the story through whip-smart lyrics, tight harmonies and choreography inspired by contemporary pop icons. Bold, witty and unapologetically modern, SIX turns dusty textbook names into fully fledged stars, making it a brilliant night out for teens, history fans and anyone who loves a big chorus they’ll be humming on the tube home.
